Dallas Empire Are This Year’s Leaders in Terms of Earned Prize Money
The Esports Earnings website has published the overall stats for 2020 – according to the report, Dallas Empire are the leaders in terms of earned prize money – the Call of Duty League team managed to secure $1,797,504, $1,5M of which were awarded for placing first in the league’s inaugural season.
Dallas Empire are followed by a multigaming organization Team Liquid, whose rosters managed to win $1,569,502 over 225 tournaments. The third place is taken by winners of Overwatch League 2020, the American team San Francisco Shock with $1,555,000 of prize money. The list of leaders in terms of earned prize money looks as follows:

Comparing this year and the previous one, the total amount of awarded prize money has decreased from $235M in 2019 to $101M in 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many tournaments were cancelled this year – the number of events has decreased from 5380 to 3808. One of the biggest losses was the cancellation of The International 2020, which would have featured a $40M+ prize pool. Those tournaments that transitioned to online often reduced their prize pools. The decrease in the number of tournaments also led to a smaller amount of active players – from 27693 to 21416.
In terms of disciplines, the leading ones in terms of awarded prize money are CS:GO ($15M), Dota 2 ($9.2M) and League of Legends ($8M).
