IEM Summer: Group Stage is Over with G2 and OG in Semifinals
IEM XVI – Summer is halfway done as its group stage has concluded earlier this weekend. In the groups’ upper finals G2 Esports defeated Team Vitality (2-0), while OG outplayed Evil Geniuses (2-1). The winners have secured their places in the semifinals, while the defeated teams will start the playoffs from the quarterfinals. There they will face the winners of the lower brackets – Gambit Esports, who defeated Complexity (2-1) in Group A, and Virtus.pro, who managed to beat Ninjas in Pyjamas (2-1) in Group B.
The teams now have a five-days break to prepare for the upcoming playoffs stage, which will begin on June 11th. The stage will feature a single-elimination bracket, where quarterfinals and semifinals will be best-of-three, while the grand finals will be best-of-five. The schedule of the remaining matches looks as follows (UK time):
June 11th
- 3:45 PM: Evil Geniuses vs Gambit Esports
- 7:00 PM: Team Vitality vs Virtus.pro
June 12th
- 3:45 PM: G2 Esports vs EG/Gambit
- 7:00 PM: OG vs Vitality/VP
June 13th
- 3:00 PM: Grand Finals
Intel Extreme Masters XVI – Summer is an online event with a $250,000 prize pool, $100,000 of which will go to its winner. On top of that, the event is part of the Intel Grand Slam series with $1,000,000 at stake.
