MSI 2021 to Take Place in May in Iceland
RIOT Games have announced the return of Mid-Season Invitational – this year’s iteration of the event is scheduled for May 6th – 22nd and will take place in Reykjavik, Iceland.
Although MSI 2021 will be held at an indoor stadium Laugardalsholl, the tournament will not accommodate live audience due to health security reasons. The event has also received an updated format – the Play-In stage has been gotten rid of and all 12 participants will start from the same stage.
The first stage – Groups – will feature three groups with a double round-robin format and best-of-one series. The best two teams from each group will advance to the second stage Rumble, where they will compete in another double round-robin group. The final third stage Knockout will feature best four teams competing in a single-elimination playoff bracket with best-of-five series.
Last year RIOT Games decided to cancel MSI 2020, however managed to successfully organize 2020 World Championship in China later in October. This year Worlds is also supposed to be held in China, while next year the event will return to North America.
