Next Season of Overwatch League to Start in Early May

Blizzard have revealed that the fifth season of Overwatch League will start on May 5th. This season will be played on an early build of Overwatch 2, thus will feature a shift from the 6v6 to the 5v5 format, as well as a new game mode. Besides that, the company hopes that they will be able to return host two live events.

This year the league will remain split into two regions – the East Region will feature Chengdu Hunters, Guangzhou Charge, Hangzhou Spark, Los Angeles Valiant, Philadelphia Fusion, Seoul Dynasty, Shanghai Dragons, while the West region includes Atlanta Reign, Boston Uprising, Dallas Fuel, Florida Mayhem, Houston Outlaws, London Spitfire, Los Angeles Gladiators, New York Excelsior, Paris Eternal, San Francisco Shock, Toronto Defiant, Vancouver Titans, Washington Justice.

The first and third tournaments of the season will be regional competitions, while the second and fourth tournament are expected to be global live events, and each will feature at least US $1 million. The playoffs will feature top six teams from the West and top three teams from the East, as well as three winners of The Countdown Cup. More info on the season will be revealed later.
