Second Season of WePlay Academy League Starts in a Week
The Ukrainian tournament operator WePlay Esports has revealed details on the upcoming second season of their WePlay Academy League. The event will have both online and offline parts and will feature a total prize pool of $100,000.
The online stage will be played from September 28th to October 9th. There eight teams – Astralis Talent, BIG Academ, Fnatic Rising, FURIA Academy, mouz NXT, Natus Vincere Junior, Young Ninjas and VP.Prodigy – will compete in two GSL groups. The winner of each group will advance to the playoffs, while the teams placed 2nd and 3rd will compete in the Play-In stage with a double-elimination bracket.
Best four teams of the online stage will travel to Kyiv, where they will play at WePlay Esports Arena. The offline stage will be played on November 12th – 14th and feature double-elimination bracket with a best-of-five grand finale, where the upper bracket team will have a one-map advantage. These four teams will split the majority of the prize pool, namely $88,000.
The league’s first season was played July – August with the same list of participants. In the grand finals of the first season mouz NTX managed to defeat Young Ninjas with a 3-1 score.
Earlier we reported that Egor "flamie" Vasilev was released from Natus Vincere after six years in the team, however he will play for the organization’s Junior squad at WePlay Academy League Season 2 to receive some practice and share his experience with younger players.
