Team Envy Close their CS:GO Division
The North American esports organization Team Envy has decided to close their Counter-Strike: Global Offensive division. All their line-up, including the players Noah "Nifty" Francis, Buğra "Calyx" Arkın, Michał "MICHU" Müller, Nikola "LEGIJA" Ninic and Thomas "Thomas" Utting, as well as their coach Jakub "kuben" Gurczyński, have been put on a transfer list.
The organization’s CEO Mike "hastr0" Rufail has explained their decision on Twitter by dissatisfaction with the team’s results and a need of a “hard reset”. Earlier in November Rufail announced that the organization had reserved “a larger budget than the previous 3 years” for their CS:GO team. Recently however he complained about the state of the CS:GO scene, stating that “operating almost any CS team is lighting money on fire” and that “there are no underlying assets that support the spend where top player salaries are”. Despite that, the organization might return to the discipline if a good opportunity presents itself.
Earlier in 2020 Team Envy became one of the founding members of the FLASHPOINT League, which reportedly costed them $2M. The team showed poor results at both seasons of the league, placing 11th and 7-8th respectively. The league’s second season was the only event the team participated in during last year’s second half.
